Gov. Rose Mofford has asked Attorney General Bob Corbin to review a state contract with the company that is building a controversial hazardous-waste disposal site south of Phoenix.

In a statement released by her office late Wednesday, Mofford said she wanted Corbin to make an "intensive and wholesale review" of the contract with Environmental Systems Co. Inc. of Little Rock, Ark., which is building and will operate the plant under a state contract. The governor also ordered a review of the plans for the facility, near Mobile, to ensure that the construction does not exceed the authority granted under the state contract or any permits. Some opponents of the plant have questioned why the plant appears to be much larger than originally proposed.
