State licensing authorities have ordered the controlled substances license of a Springville dentist be placed on a one-year probation, an order said.

The order, issued by the state Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, resolves a petition that accused John T. Marshall of misusing his license to administer and prescribe drugs.Marshall prescribed Methylphenidate for a family member who was hyperactive, division documents said. Regulators accused Marshall of unprofessional conduct in treating a condition he was not licensed to treat and failing to maintain records of the prescriptions.

Marshall's license to practice dentistry is not affected by the division's order.
