SHARE UTAH COWBOYS FARE WELL IN DAYS OF ’47 RODEO

Utah cowboys had a good night Thursday in the third performance of the Days of '47 Rodeo at the Salt Palace, but it was California barrel racer Terri Tackitt who electrified things with an outstanding winning time of 14.32 seconds.

Tackitt was .18 second better than the best time in the first two performances. That was 14.50 by Angie Meadors of Wetumka, Okla., the No. 4 money-winner on the circuit this season.As for the Utahns, Wallace J. Berryhill of Kaysville and Jim R. Rukavina of Price combined to win the night's team roping event with a time of 8.0 seconds, and Spanish Fork's Kary McNeil took the overall lead in steer wrestling with a 5.3 time.

In other events, Phil Smith of Emerson, Ariz., moved into a tie for the overall lead in bareback riding with a 76 to win Thursday's go-round. Utah's Lewis Feild posted a 76 on opening night.

Butch Small of Dubois, Idaho, fetched a 78 in saddle bronc riding to take the overall lead in that event.

Thursday's other winners were Tommy J Guy of Abilene, Texas, in calf roping at 9.1; and Vance C. Avery of Rigby, Idaho, with a 78-point bull ride.
