An explosion rocked a Moscow-bound passenger train in southern Russia overnight, killing five passengers and injuring 10, Soviet media reported Friday.

The cause of the blast, which occurred around midnight Thursday between the second and third passenger cars of the train, was under investigation, according to the Tass news agency.The explosion occurred on the Matveyev Kurgan-Zakadychnoye section of the Donetsk railway line in southern Russia, just south of the Ukrainian border near the Sea of Azov, the government newspaper Izvestia said.
