Renovation work on the historic Hotel Utah building in downtown Salt Lake City is expected to begin within two weeks, Church officials announced July 12.

Bids on renovation of the former hotel were opened July 11, announced the First Presidency. Christiansen Bros. Inc./Bodell Construction of Salt Lake City, a joint venture, was the apparent low bidder at $41.8 million.Completion of the renovation is expected by the end of 1992.

The Church announced in 1988 that the former hotel, located across the street from the Salt Lake Temple, would be converted into a combination of Church offices, facilities for downtown Church congregations, and public facilities.

The public facilities include meeting rooms, dining areas, computer stations for family history research and a large-screen theater for showing visitors to the city a film on the early history of the Church.
