A visiting British delegation, in a rare encounter with Iranian-linked figures, held a lengthy meeting Tuesday with the spiritual leader of Hezbollah, the group believed to be holding foreign hostages.

Britain's Conservative Party deputies, Robert Adley, Colin Shepherd and Tim Rathbone, met the powerful cleric, Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, at his heavily guarded residence in a Hezbollah-patrolled southern suburb of Beirut.

Adley said as he emerged from the closed-door meeting that the talks did not deal with the plight of 16 Western captives.
