Two men charged in connection with the drug-overdose death of a Helper woman have pleaded guilty to possession or use of a controlled substance.
Russell L. Jensen, 34, Payson, and Richard E. Wilson, 38, Helper, entered the pleas Friday before 4th District Judge Cullen Y. Christensen. The defendants entered the guilty pleas in exchange for the dropping of charges of negligent homicide, a class A misdemeanor, and possession or use of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor. The defendants face possible prison sentences of up to five years and maximum fines of $5,000.
Jensen and Wilson were arrested April 6 after their car was stopped at a routine roadblock west of Lehi. Shortly after authorities ordered the defendants and the victim, Michelle Daniels Wilson, 26, from the car, the woman began convulsing.
She died a short while later at American Fork Hospital of a drug-induced heart attack. An autopsy showed she had morphine, codeine and many times the lethal amount of cocaine in her blood when she died.
