Bountiful tax attorney Robert Rose was picked Wednesday as interim Davis County commissioner, filling out the remaining five months of former commissioner William Peters.
Commissioners Gayle Stevenson and Dub Lawrence selected Rose from a slate of six candidates for the temporary job nominated by the county Republican Party's central committee in June. Rose was the top vote-getter in the party meeting.Peters resigned July 1 with six months remaining in his term after being appointed to the state board of pardons by Gov. Norman Bangerter. His commission seat is up for election in the fall.
Rose told the GOP central committee he is interested in filling only the interim slot and is not running for the four-year seat in the fall election.
Two commission candidates who face each other in the September primary, Jack Bangerter and Ed Snow, both of Bountiful, were also named as potential interim commissioners by the central committee. Bangerter last week withdrew from the interim list, saying he believes being appointed would give a candidate an unfair advantage.
Snow criticized Bangerter for the move, charging Bangerter argued at the June party caucus that candidates should not be excluded from the appointment.
