The Utah Energy Office has funded a University of Utah project to evaluate the energy efficiency of public buildings, using three-member teams of graduate and undergraduate students.

Robert F. Boehm, professor of mechanical engineering and an authority on energy applications, will direct the study with the cooperation of the Utah Engineering Experiment Station. An evaluation team will consist of one graduate student and two undergraduate students. The teams will perform follow-up analyses on buildings previously determined to be energy-inefficient. The buildings will include schools, state government offices and other public facilities.

The data students compile on visits to the buildings will be analyzed and suggestions made for improving energy conservation. Boehm said some of the buildings were previously audited by other groups, but the suggested changes did not produce enough savings in energy usage.
