Clifford Jones Matthews, age 87, died July 26, 1990 in West Jordan, Utah.
Born August 14, 1902 in Bennion, Utah to Alma and Racheal Jones Matthews. married Melva Serena Player November 17, 1922 in Salt Lake City. Marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Member LDS Church. He was a lifelong farmer, running the Church Farms, and lived his whole life in the Bennion Ward. Raised sugar beets, and while the harvest season was on, worked the night shift at the West Jordan Sugar Factory. Worked at Garfield Smelter and owned and operated his own garage in Bennion.
Survived by wife, Bennion; son, Wayne and wife Lorraine Matthews, Park City; daughter, Marjorie Wood and husband Max, West Jordan; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; two brothers and sister, Don and Preston Matthews, and Violet McCleery. Preceded in death by brother, Orville Matthews, sons, Ray, Robert, and daughter, Connie.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 12 noon, Hewwood Ward, 5643 South 2200 West. Friends may call Sunday, 5-7 p.m. at the McDougal Golden Rule Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and at the church one hour prior to services. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
