Emma Carlile Smith, 94, died July 28, 1990 at her home in Heber City.
Born March 27, 1896 in Heber City, to John and Sarah Crook Carlile. Married J. Lon Smith, November 28, 1923 in the Salt Lake Temple. He died November 3, 1967. Emma was known for her musical abilities and her willingness to share her talents. She accompanied many singing groups and entertained on the piano. Also loved to waltz and she and her husband won many of the old-time waltz contests. For many years she conducted the Adeline Chorus, a ladies chorus that presented many professional concerts in the Heber Valley and by invitation repeated some throughout the state. She was an active member of the LDS Church, and served in nearly every auxiliary in her ward and stake. During World War II, Emma contributed her share to the war effort by spending long hours overseeing the local church canning center.Survived by two sons and a daughter, VaLois Rasband and Duane C. Smith, Heber City; J. Harold Smith, Lake Elsinore, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a daughter, a son, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services, Tuesday, 1 p.m., at the Heber 5th Ward Chapel. Friends may call at Olpin Mortuary, Monday 6-8 p.m. and at the ward chapel, Tuesday one hour prior to services. Burial, Heber City Cemetery.
