A fire destroyed a isolated oil tank north of I-70 in eastern Utah, burning about 60 barrels of crude oil and sending clouds of black smoke skyward, officials said.

The fire was reported at about 4 a.m. Wednesday and had burned itself out by Thursday morning, said spokeswoman Mary Plumb of the Bureau of Land Management's Moab district office. An investigation was continuing, but Plumb said early suspicions that arson was involved had given way to theories that the tank, owned by EPS Resources of Denver, had been struck by lightning.
