Juab School District board members have agreed to a 6 percent pay raise for district teachers and certified staff.

In addition, the district will pay a 15 percent insurance-cost increase."The teachers have approved the package," Superintendent Kirk Wright said. "We (members of the negotiating team) are now bringing the package to you for your approval."

Rather than give each teacher the $1,000 bonus mandated by the state Legislature, teachers in the district preferred having the money go into a kitty so each teacher could have a 6 percent increase. Otherwise, those who had taught many years would not benefit from the money as much as new teachers would.
