A former Weber State College educator died July 26, 1990, in Bountiful.
Lawrence Chambers Evans, 73, who at the time of his death was professor emeritus of philosophy, taught at the college for 39 years and also served as chairman of the department of political science and philosophy and dean of the School of Social Sciences.Among other recognitions, Evans received the Service Award in Social Sciences in 1980 and the Henry Aldous Dixon Award in 1984. He retired in 1985.
Evans was born March 29, 1917, in Ogden to Lawrence H. and Ireta C. Evans and married Catherine Smith in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Sept. 22, 1941. He received a bachelor's degree, two master's degrees and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Utah.
Survivors are his wife; son, Matthew Lawrence Evans; one grandson; and brother, Thomas Blair Evans.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Bountiful 18th Ward.
