Harriet Johns Hyer, age 64, currently residing in Taipei, Taiwan, China, died of respiratory failure, July 2, 1990.

Born March 27, 1926 in Pleasant View, Utah, to Farmer Edward and Sarah Jones Johns. Spent her early years in Pleasant View and graduated from Weber High School in 1944. She attended Utah State University. Married Paul Hyer of Ogden, December 15, 1948, in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home in Provo, where her husband was a professor at BYU. Active member LDS Church, and served in various capacities in the Provo 15th Ward. She was an accomplished violinist and music was an important part of her life. She sang with the Madsen Memorial Choir. She served with her husband as Taiwan, Taipei LDS Mission President, 1982-85. She was currently serving as matron of the Taiwan Taipei Temple. She dedicated her life to family, church service and the Asian people.She is survived by her husband, currently serving as President of the Taiwan Taipei LDS Temple; three sons and five daughters, Paulette Hyer Patterson, Manti; Scott Hyer, Beford, New Hampshire; Eric Hyer, Orem; Luanne Hyer Olson, Provo; Jana Hyer Davies, Fairview, Alberta, Canada; Carol Hyer Toone, Mesa, Arizona; Annette Hyer Luymes, Los Angeles, California; David Hyer, Provo; 27 grandchildren; mother, Sarah Johns, Pleasant View; four sisters, Mrs. Glenn (Arlene) Byrne, Mrs. Howard (Zelma) Snyder, both of Ogden; Mrs. Cecil (Melba) Shaw, Pleasant View; Mrs. Robert (LouElla) Wheelwright, North Ogden; mother-in-law, Mrs. Ariel (Ann) Hyer, Ogden. Preceded in death by her father and father-in-law.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., Bonneville Stake Center, 85 South 900 East, Provo. Friends may call Friday, 6-8 p.m., Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, or at the stake center Saturday, one hour prior to services. Interment: Provo City Cemetery
