Albania said Friday it is willing to grant passports to all refugees sheltered in foreign embassies in Tirana, as the number of asylum-seekers in the capital reportedly soared to more than 1,300.

The hard-line communist government also rejected as a "concoction" Western news reports that a number of Albanians died in clashes with security forces earlier in the week.In Bonn, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said there were more than 1,000 refugees in the West German Embassy alone - up from 86 reported Thursday morning.
