A weeklong series of concerts is planned as part of the 50th Utah State University Summer Music Clinic, July 8-14 on the USU campus.
Kicking the series off will be a free concert by the USU Alumni Band Monday, July 9, at 8 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall of the Chase Fine Arts Center.A Russian jazz duet was scheduled Thursday, July 12, but the group has had to cancel. Instead an evening of modern jazz and Dixieland music will be offered by the Riverboat Ramblers and the Larry Smith Sextet at 8 p.m. in the arts center's Morgan Theatre. Tickets are $4 ($3 students), available at the door.
Next featured are members of the Chicago Chamber Brass on Friday, July 13, at 8 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall. Again, admission is $4 ($3 students).
The week's concerts conclude Saturday, July 14, with the a Grand Finale Concert at 2 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall. This concert is free.
More than 250 young musicians are expected to take part in this year's clinic, the highest enrollment so far. Most come from the Mountain West but others are traveling from Alaska, Washington and Norway.
The program began in 1932 and has continued with just a few gaps during the Depression and World War II.
