John Byron Engar, age 76, passed away August 17, 1990 after a long illness.
He was born December 24, 1913 in Preston, Idaho a son of Charles J. and Alveretta Staples Engar. He married June Mather, July 11, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Graduated from LDS High School. He worked in the grocery business, beginning with Safeway and later owning By's Market. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He loved sports, especially swimming and tennis. At age 70, he won the Tribune No-Champs Tournament.
Survived by wife; daughters, Mrs. Claron (Susan) Headman; Mrs. Ronald J. (Julie) Smith; Mrs. Terence (Lory) Moore; son, J. Gordon Engar and wife, Linda; 25 grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Al (Anna Laura) Summerhays; brothers, Karl J. Engar, and Keith M. Engar.
Funeral services Tuesday, August 21st, at 12 noon, Grant 7th Ward Chapel, 3487 South 1300 East. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple on Monday evening 6-8 pm, and Tuesday at the Ward, one hour prior to services. Interment in Sandy, Utah at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
