To the editor:

Bud Scruggs has "acknowledged prayers at those types of events (among cast members before a school play, at some pep rallies and other activities sponsored by schools) have been held to be unconstitutional."The National League Foundation, the law firm that just took the Mergens case all the way through the U.S. Supreme Court and won 8-1, says that Scruggs is not accurate in his remarks.

School-sponsored prayers are different than student-initiated prayers. There is an approved method of having free speech in prayers at school. A syllabus for use as a guideline will be available in the near future for schools and/or attorneys to use.

Please be advised that in not considering student-initiated prayers, Scruggs is doing the whole country - as well as Utah - a big disservice in the opinion of the most knowledgeable law firm in the country on student-initiated prayers.
