Heredity, stress, illness, some prescription drugs and hormone changes are just a few of the causes of hair loss.

So, anyone who is experiencing hair loss should check into the reason, says Mature Outlook magazine.Genetic hair loss affects 25 million people in the United States and is the most common cause of hair loss and baldness. Many people assume heredity is to blame and do nothing when they may be able to reverse the loss.

Dr. Emmanuel E. Mamatas offers the following advice in his book "No-Hair-Loss Hair Care" (Prentice Hall) for people who think they are having a falling out.

Determine if the hair loss is real. Collect the hair that is shedding for a week and calculate the average daily hair loss. Continue doing this for several weeks. If more than 100 hairs per day are falling out that is a true hair loss that should be checked out.
