State licensing authorities have taken action against the license of a nurse who stole a check from a patient in a nursing home and cashed it, an order says.

The license of Francis Marie Willard has been placed on a one-year probation, the state said, during which time she must take courses on the legal aspects of nursing and disclose to her employers the action taken against her.According to an order and stipulation filed by the state Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, Willard was convicted of felony forgery for the theft.

The order explains that Willard said she took the check because of difficult financial circumstances and intended to repay the patient anonymously.
