Boat ramps at three southern Utah state parks will likely close in the days ahead due to low water levels, the state Division of Parks and Recreation reports.

Heavy rains delayed the closure of Quail Creek State Park, originally projected for Aug. 18 and 19. "We're just handling boating on a day-to-day basis," said park ranger Dennis Olsen.Water conditions are not much better at Piute or Otter Creek state parks as water levels have dropped to the bottom of the boat ramps. By Aug. 26, only jet skiers and hand-launched boats will be able to use Otter Creek.

"Piute will probably be drawn down to little more than a stream by the end of the month," said Drew Kreitzer, park manager.
