Five stars of "The Lawrence Welk Show" television series - Myron Floren, Bobby Burgess, Elaine Balden, Sandy Griffiths and Joe Feeney - will perform on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. at Symphony Hall.
The live performance is being co-sponsored by KBYU-TV, which airs weekly reruns of the popular TV series;the Deseret News, KDYL-FM and the Cove Point Retirement Center.
Accordionist and conductor Myron Floren, who is still one of the most in-demand performers from the famous Lawrence Welk organization, was assistant band director during the many years the show was on TV.
Floren will conduct the orchestra for the Salt Lake concert. The orchestra will be made up of Utah musicians.
Dancer Bobby Burgess and his dancing partner, Elaine Balden, are also among the popular performers from the Welk show. Burgess began his career on the original "Mickey Mouse Club" 29 years ago. Balden became his partner on the Welk show after auditioning by invitation along with 35 other dancers. Personally selected by Welk, she remained with the show through its final live telecast.
Long a favorite with Salt Lake audiences, Sandi Griffiths is a former member of the Brigham Young University Young Ambassadors. She sang with "The Lawrence Welk Show" for more than 12 years.
Irish tenor Joe Feeney is also among the show's favorite entertainers.
