The state's Community Impact Board has approved a $300,000 grant to be used by this city in constructing a wastewater collection and treatment facility.
The project will not be undertaken, however, until a feasibility study is completed, other sources of financial support are developed and the voters then give their approval at a special election. The issue could be placed on the November ballot, Mayor Gerald Hansen said.
The engineering estimate of the cost of the project is $2 million. That cost is a major concern, and the council is divided on the issue at this time, the mayor said.
A high water table is not a problem as it is with some communities in Sanpete County, Hansen said, adding, however, that growth has to be a major consideration.
If the city moves ahead with the project, Hansen said, the wastewater would be piped to the Mt. Pleasant sewer lagoon in a cooperative agreement between the two cities.
