Temperatures will be in the upper 90s, probably about 96 or 97 degrees, during the next two days along the Wasatch Front.

But watch out. The mercury could climb back to July's 100-degree heights on Wednesday or Thursday, said William J. Alder, meteorologist in charge of the Salt Lake office of the National Weather Service.The record-high temperature for Aug. 7 at the Salt Lake International Airport is 99 degrees. Other record highs are 100 for Aug. 8 and 103 on Aug. 9. The low temperature was 64 degrees and had risen to 79 by 9 a.m. Monday at the Salt Lake International Airport. The high was 94 Sunday, while St. George recorded the high - 107 degrees - for the state Sunday. Other highs Sunday: 104, Zion National Park; 100, Hanksville, Wayne County; 101, Bullfrog marina, Kane County; 108, Las Vegas; 95, Green River, Emery County; and 106 in Boise, Idaho.

Isolated afternoon and evening showers and thundershowers are forecast for southern Utah, mainly over the mountains, during the next few days. It will be mostly dry along the Wasatch Front.

With continued hot, dry conditions, Alder said, he is surprised there haven't been more fires and rationing of water in Utah.
