Leaders of a Utah Legislature task force examining the state's open-records law have asked a Brigham Young University professor to help them.

Co-chairmen Sen. David H. Steele and Rep. Martin R. Stephens named Alf Pratte, associate professor of communications, to the 25-member task force.A member of the Society of Professional Journalists/Sigma Delta Chi, Pratte is one of three media representatives on the task force. The others are University of Utah law professor Kay Lahey and Don Baker of the Standard-Examiner in Ogden.

Pratte, a former journalist in Canada, Hawaii, Pennsylvania and Utah, replaces Valerie Schulthies of the Deseret News, who has left the state.
