Charles Lehman "Bud" Archer Jr., Holladay, returned to his Heavenly Father September 23, 1990 after a long and valiant struggle.
He was born September 12, 1920 to Charles Lehman Archer Sr. and Julia Elizabeth Gilberg Archer. He was preceded in death by his parents.Bud is survived by his beloved wife, Eleanor McBride; three sons and one daughter, daughters-in-law, son-in-law: Lee and Leslie; Mike and Julie; Paul and Carol; Scott and Cathy McDonald; sister, M. Lucille Bywater; 14 grandchildren.
Bud and Ellie were married on February 6, 1943 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. His children were also sealed to him. He was a high priest in the LDS Church. He never turned down a calling in his church and served faithfully in many callings. Bud was one who espoused his Savior's teaching to "omit not the weightier matters of the law" as he rendered countless acts of compassion and charity to all he saw in need.
Bud loved people. He loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and his sister. He always greeted all of his family members with a hug and a kiss. Many other people came into his life and he welcomed them unconditionally into his circle of loved ones.
Bud graduated from East High School in 1937. He has stayed close to many of his high school friends. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1947. Bud was proud to be a Ute. He joined the Crimson Club as charter member and enjoyed his association with fellow fans and with coaches and players. He joined Kappa Sigma Fraternity in 1937 and was Grand Master as an active member and served as a member of the House Corporation and as Chapter Advisor as an Alumnus.
Bud followed his father into the insurance business and worked in that profession for 43 years. He participated in the Utah Independent Agents Association, serving a term as president. He wrote aviation insurance, became a licensed pilot, joined the Utah Pilots Association and was president for one year.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and was discharged in 1945. Bud was very involved in politics at the grass roots level working as party district chairman and as delegate to the state convention. He was also in the Jay Cees for many years. Bud donated 80 pints of blood during his life. He was an avid fisherman.
His most valued titles were Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend. He benefitted the lives of all his family and friends. Bud loved and was loved and he will be missed greatly. As we grieve his loss, we take comfort knowing that he has been welcomed home by his parents and by many other loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Wednesday, September 26, 1990 in the Holladay 11th Ward Chapel, 2065 East 4675 South. Friends may pay tribute to Bud Tuesday evening, September 25, from 7-9 p.m. at MacKay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive, or Wednesday from 10:45 to 11:45 prior to the funeral at the ward.
