Utah banks begin 1991 with a renewed commitment to lend money inside the state, according to Lawrence W. Alder, Utah Bankers Association president.

"With more than 400 locations in Utah, banks have a major impact on local economics. Our commitment to loan within our service areas is like recycling," said Alder. The local barbershop, market and children's store count on their bank to finance expansion, inventory and other needs. This is money that originates in the community and stays within it to keep the local economy moving ahead, he said. In 1990, banks made 150,000 loans to individuals, families and businesses.
