Because choosing a financial planner can be risky unless the consumer is careful, the Federal Trade Commission and the American Association of Retired Persons have published a brochure to help people organize their finances and find professional advice.
Called "Facts About Financial Planners," the brochure warns consumers to beware of planners who use high-pressure tactics or promise unusually high rates of return.FTC officials said that if you decide to choose a financial planner, find one who will work with you to develop and implement a plan tailored to your specific needs.
The brochures are available at the FTC's Public Reference Branch, Room 130, 6th Street and Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20580.
