The Army began activating about 20,000 more reservists, dipping for the first time into the pool of reservists not attached to particular units for help in Saudi Arabia, Europe and within the country.
Western Union Mailgrams were dumped into the postal system Sunday directing those whose skills are needed to report to specific mobilization sites within seven days.Members of what is known as the Individual Ready Reserve will be activated for a year.
Those being ordered to active duty include individuals such as medics, truck drivers, tank and truck mechanics, supply specialists, fuel transportation specialists and artillerymen.
A Pentagon spoeksman said some would be dispatched to Saudi Arabia but many would go to Europe to fill in on jobs once held by soldiers already assigned to Operation Desert Storm.
