A new storm system brought new snow to southern and eastern Utah by Friday but left many roads in hazardous condition.
The storm, which left several inches in some areas, resulted in at least one truck jackknifing on I-15 between Beaver and Cedar City, Thursday evening."It snowed yesterday afternoon, and rain fell during the night, creating extremely icy conditions. It is snowing now. Roads are snowpacked at higher elevations and are in poor condition," Karen Orton, a Utah Highway Patrol dispatcher in Cedar City, said mid-Friday morning.
As of 8:30 a.m. Friday, Duck Creek and Big Water, both Kane County, had 6 inches and 5 inches of snow, respectively; Bryce Canyon, Bullfrog and Lake Powell, 4 inches; Cedar City, 3; and Hanksville, Wayne County; Delta, Millard County; and Monticello, all 2 inches, said National Weather Service meteorologist William J. Alder.
Less than an inch of new snow was forecast Friday for the Salt Lake area.
Alder said the storm will begin moving eastward Friday night and it will be partly cloudy Saturday. Another storm may move in after dark Monday, but most moisture will be in the northern part of the state.
A stronger storm is forecast Wednesday.
