Elden Darrell Ames, age 69, passed away January 2, 1991 of a sudden heart attack.

He was born March 3, 1921 in Hyrum, Utah, the son of Jennie Elnor Beeke and Henry O'Banion Ames. He married Carol Smith Madsen on October 1, 1980. Elden entered the service in September 1942 and trained in the Quarter Master Mess Management School. He served as a mess sergeant stationed in New Guinea and Japan. He worked at the Brigham Army hospital in charge of the officers' mess after his release from the service in January 1946. In July of 1946, at the age of 25, he started to work at the V.A. Medical Center as Chief of Food Production until his retirement in 1980.Elden was preceded in death by three wives: Phyllis Johnson, June Larrick Swan, and Helen Hales Christensen.

He is survived by his wife, Carol S. Madsen Ames; Christine Madsen; Mr. and Mrs. Ron (Linda) Rasmussen; Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan S. (Janet) Jackson; eight grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Mr. and Mrs. Lorin (Myrene) Roskelly, Faye A. Rigby, and Mr. and Mrs. Orval (Vernice) Ames.

Elden took pride in the appearance of his home and yard and spent most of his spare time caring for his lawn and flowers.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 12 noon, January 7, 1991 in the Holladay 28th LDS Ward, 2625 Milo Way (4910 So.). Friends may call at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Sunday 5-7 p.m. and at the ward Monday 10:45-11:45 a.m. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Utah Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
