Elsie Burgess Cox, age 82, died Saturday evening, January 5, 1991 at her home in St. George, Utah.

She was born May 23, 1908 in St. George, a daughter of Abram and Mary Maudeen Whitney Burgess. She married Emerald Lane Cox on June 28, 1928 in the St. George Temple. He preceded her in death April 29, 1979.Elsie was a lifelong St. George resident. She and her husband owned the Apex Mine for nearly 30 years. She was an avid gardener and was noted for her beautiful yard and flowers. Elsie was a wonderful neighbor and made friends with each one. She is much loved by her family and friends. She was a charter member of the Alice Louise Reynolds Literary Club. An active member of the LDS Church, she has served in many ward and stake positions. She resided in the St. George 4th Ward.

Surviving family include her two sons, Dr. Clark B. Cox and his wife, Donna A., Delta; Dr. Sherman L. Cox and his wife, Marilyn T., Bellevue, Wash.; five daughters, Mrs. J. Truman (DeLoris) Blake, Santa Clara; Carolyn Cox Holland; Mrs. H. Bruce (Cheryl) Stucki; Mrs. Neal D. (Cynthia) Shepherd; and Mrs. Douglas C. (Rosalee) Rogers, all of St. George; 39 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; a brother, J. Burton Burgess and his wife, Evelyn; three sisters, Hettie B. Hunt; Mrs. Reed (Mary) Graff; and Mrs. David M. (Verna) Schmutz, all of St. George.

Funeral services will be held at the St. George East Stake Center, 449 South 300 East, Wednesday, January 9, 1991, at 1 p.m. Friends may call Tuesday evening, at the Spilsbury-Desert Rose Mortuary, 58 North 100 East, from 7-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, at the stake center, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be at the St. George City Cemetery under the direction of the Spilsbury-Desert Rose Mortuary.
