Salt Lake businessman Ken Knight has been named the next chairman of the Utah Symphony board of directors.
The board elected Knight, 64, unanimously on Monday to succeed Deedee Corradini, whose three-year term expires in August.A graduate of West High School and the University of Utah, Knight is vice chairman of the board of Sinclair Oil Corp. and president of Little America Hotel Co. This season he has been vice chairman in charge of development for the symphony, having spearheaded its successful $3-million endowment drive last summer. Previously he was chairman of the symphony's corporate council, in charge of corporate fund raising.
"We felt it was appropriate to announce it now so people could plan for the future," said Corradini. She said she was confident Knight would bring "new energy" to the post and looked forward to serving with him on the board.
Corradini is chairman of Bonneville Associates, a lobbying group, and executive vice president of the Bonneville Group. Recently she has been discussed as a possible successor to Mayor Palmer DePaulis, should he decide not to stand for re-election.
