SHARE ASIAN ASSOCIATION ELECTS BOARD MEMBERS

The Asian Association of Utah has elected executive board members, with Jeff Itami, a Japanese community member, elected chairman.

Itami has also served as president of the Salt Lake Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League. He is a detective for the Salt Lake County sheriff's office crime lab and serves as secretary for the Utah Division of International Association for Identification. He is a graduate of Idaho State University in Pocatello and served in the U.S. Army, European Command.Other officers elected to the association's executive board were Thuan Van Tran (Vietnamese), first vice chairman; Dr. Dae Myung Kang (Korean), second vice chairman; Suri Suddhiphayak (Thai), secretary; and Joseph Moratalla (Filipino), treasurer.

The officers will serve a two-year term ending in 1993.

The Asian Association of Utah is a 14-year-old non-profit organization that provides numerous social services to Asians and refugees. Services include English reading and writing skills, vocational training, youth and family counseling, alcohol and drug prevention, programs for youth and the elderly.
