Mark Allen won his third straight Ironman Triathlon World Championship on Saturday, tying six-time winner Dave Scott's record for consecutive victories.
Allen, 31, of Cardiff, Calif., finished the 140.6-mile endurance test in 8 hours, 18 minutes and 35 seconds, behind his own 1989 record of 8:09:15."The third victory was very satisfying," Allen said. "The conditions were good, but it was a hard race. In the last half of the marathon, I just kept putting one foot ahead of the other and tried to hold steady."
Greg Welch of Australia finished second in 8:24:35 and Jeff Devlin of Westchester, Penn., was third in 8:27:54. Pauli Kiuru of Finland was fourth in 8:30:06 and Wolfgang Dittrich of Germany followed at 8:30:48.
