To the editor:

Our family just returned from our favorite hunting area, Ashley National Forest, Uinta Mountains, in and around Long Park Dam. We were greeted as it were with a closure of roads leading to choice deer, elk and moose habitat. Bulldozers had torn up hard-packed timber access roads we have used for years.Who could have done such a thing? This, of course, limits the entire area to a select few who have horses. I protest this action very strongly, as do others in our party who have hunted this beautiful spot for years.

Who has the right of closure? The BLM, the National Forest, DWR, Daggett County? I do not know. Will the guilty party please respond? I think they will if there is a just cause which will benefit all of the users of this choice wildlife area.

It is so depressing. Forest fires wipe out certain areas. This causes limited access, even closure. Sheep Creek Park is still a limited access - unless you have horses or are hale and hearty, able to hike in, bag an animal and pack it out on your back.

Others visiting these lands will also find normally timber shaded camping spots torn up, bare, void of shade. Yes, even closed to all vehicles. Believe me, the old hunting spot is just about gone. At best it is shrinking at an alarming rate. Who can help?
