Two of the three candidates eliminated in the primary election for Salt Lake mayor are giving their support to Deedee Corradini.
Mike Zuhl and Dave Jones announced their support Monday at a news conference with Corradini. The move was not surprising. Although municipal races officially are non-partisan, Jones, Zuhl and Corradini are all Democrats. Corradini's opponent, Dave Buhler, is a Republican."I've known Deedee for a long time. She's what we need in the city today," said Zuhl, who finished fourth in the five-way race.
Jones, the third-place finisher, said all three have similar philosophies. "I believe she (Corradini) has some good, tangible programs, and I don't get the sense that those programs are there in the opposition," he said.
Corradini said the reason it took nearly two weeks after the election for the candidates to offer support was that Buhler and Jones were involved in a recount and Jones was for a short time considering a write-in campaign.
The fifth candidate, Socialist Workers Party candidate Patricia Grogan, has not announced support for any other candidate.
