Cathy A. Malchiodi, University of Utah adjunct assistant professor of art, will be named the third recipient at the American Art Therapy Association national convention in Denver next month.
The award recognizes extraordinary service to the organization and art therapy field. The winner is invited to speak at the convention.Malchiodi is the art therapy graduate studies director and founder. She has led the development of art therapy in the West and organized the first regional conference, which was attended by professionals from 20 states.
The award recognizes her 1987 trip to China where she taught and promoted art therapy. During her one-month visit, she trained 200 medical and social service practitioners.
She is the author of "Breaking the Silence: art therapy with children from violent homes." She has presented more than 40 papers on the subject.
