Count Dracula is coming to Salt Lake City this Halloween - but to give blood, not take it.

On Monday, Oct. 28, Count Dracula will be at the ZCMI Center in downtown Salt Lake City as part of the second annual Halloween "Vee Need Your Blood" drive. Sponsored by Intermountain Health Care, the drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in an enclosed location just inside the Eagle Gate Tower lobby.KSL Radio personality Doug Wright will broadcast live from the mall's center court, discussing issues relating to the safety and status of Utah's blood supply.

"Every holiday season, the blood supply in Utah drops by about 12 percent, and this year, we are even lower than that," said Jeanine Boulden, donor resources coordinator of IHC Blood Services at LDS Hospital. "We hope that this activity will generate critically needed blood and encourage people to donate throughout the winter months."

Boulden said donating blood is a simple, easy and safe process. Donors are questioned about possible health hazards prior to donating, and all blood is carefully screened before being distributed to local hospitals.
