A 24-year-old Pleasant View woman waived a preliminary hearing Friday on charges stemming from the death of her newborn son, whose body was found in a car trunk on Sept. 19.

Coni Richan appeared before 2nd District Judge Parley Baldwin, who bound the case over for trial. Richan is now scheduled to enter pleas on a charge of third degree felony desecration of a human body and a Class A misdemeanor negligent homicide charge Wednesday before 2nd District Judge David Roth.Weber County Attorney Reed Richards says Richan failed to take proper care after the baby was born alive at home. He said the baby died shortly after birth, about two weeks before someone called police to say there was a baby in a trunk.

If convicted, Richan could be sentenced to serve up to six years in prison.
