An environmental study is being done on Mountain Fuel Supply Co.'s proposal to build two natural gas pipelines to serve four southern Utah communities.
The study is being conducted by the Dixie National Forest's Pine Valley Ranger District.Specifically, Mountain Fuel wants to construct one pipeline to serve Newcastle and Enterprise and another to provide natural gas to Central and Veyo.
District Ranger Thomas A. Contreras said the line for Newcastle and Enterprise would tap into the Kern River Gas Transmission Co.'s pipeline near Newcastle and then follow existing road rights-of-way to the two communities.
The proposed pipeline for Central and Veyo would also tap into the Kern River gas transmission line near Central and follow existing temporary spur roads to the two communities.
He said the hookup for Newcastle-Enterprise will be about one-quarter mile from Newcastle and the distribution line will extend about five miles into Enterprise. The other hookup will be about one-quarter mile from Central and will extend about six miles into Veyo.
