Bruce LaBeau has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his using a shotgun to threaten five members of a Logan family.
LaBeau, 27, was to have been arraigned in 1st District Court Monday, but Cache County Deputy Attorney James Jenkins said a plea bargain was reached last week after LaBeau waived a preliminary hearing.Under the deal, LaBeau will be sentenced Nov. 25 on charges of attempted murder, child kidnapping and aggravated kidnapping. The first-degree felonies each carry a maximum penalty of five years to life in prison and a $10,000 fine.
If 1st District Judge Gordon Low approves the agreement, one count of child kidnapping, two counts of aggravated kidnapping and one count of aggravated burglary would be dismissed 30 days after sentencing.
LaBeau was arrested by Logan police on Sept. 23 after forcing his way into the home of A. Spencer Raymond and threatening Raymond and his four sons with a loaded shotgun.
LaBeau apparently became distracted during the incident, allowing Raymond to grab the gun. As the two wrestled, the weapon discharged into a wall.
Raymond suffered powder burns but otherwise wasn't wounded. Raymond and his sons were able to take the gun away from LaBeau and give it to Raymond's wife, Melanie. She called police while her husband and sons held LaBeau down.
