To the editor:
The problem with this year's West Valley election is more than meets the eye.The concern is that Janice Fisher is trying to unseat Margaret Peterson, a fellow councilwoman, while she still has two years left in her own District 4 office. I cannot support a council member, man or woman, who is determined to satisfy his or her own special interests over those of West Valley residents and a cohesive City Council.
In addition, these questions need to be asked: Are some city employee organizations funding her campaign, thus creating conflicts of interest? Why has the Utah Democratic Committee, in a non-partisan election, printed its return address and non-profit postage rate on Fisher's campaign flyers?
Margaret Peterson has worked hard for West Valley City. In two years, she has created a gang awareness and community involvement policy as a member of the Salt Lake Area Gang Project Community Board. She has created a Volunteer Services Program and a Target a Neighborhood Program to help clean up our city. She works hard for West Valley City on Utah League of Cities committees, the National League of Cities Finance Committee and the Salt Lake County Council of Governments.
