To the editor:

The proposed congressional redistricting plan before the Legislature does a tremendous disservice to the citizens of Salt Lake City. The plan may be good politics, but it is an example of very poor government. The plan guts Salt Lake City and undermines coherent representation of the people of the Salt Lake Valley. Shamefully, the plan plays upon and exacerbates the unfortunate sense of division between the east and the west sides of Salt Lake City. The plan will ensure that representation of the east and west sides will be guided by differing interests, to the detriment of all citizens of the city.

I urge the Legislature to reject the plan, and should this flawed redistricting plan pass the Legislature, I urge Gov. Bangerter to veto it.
