To the editor:
There is much hysteria among self-styled environmentalists. We are told that the Earth is warming at a dangerous rate so that the ice at the poles will all melt and the seacoast cities will be inundated.A recent analysis from nearly 1,000 U.S. weather stations showed no signs of a warming effect. The average U.S. temperature decreased - note that - decreased by a fraction of a degree over the past 70 years.
The National Weather Service reported that all of the electronic thermometers in the Southwest (which feed data into the weather reports) run about two degrees too high. This might explain why there have been persistent reports of a supposed global warming.
These are isolated cases that illustrate the hysteria of many environmentalists who cry doomsday when the facts do not support their claims. And anyway, the moral degeneracy among us will destroy us long before the environment could, even if all their hysteria proved true - which it does not.
