The Croat stronghold of Osijek in eastern Croatia reportedly came under a new attack Tuesday, and the federal army prepared to give up its last two military facilities in the secessionist republic's capital.

The Serb-dominated army and Croatian authorities began exchanging prisoners of war, with 70 captives released near the Croatian capital, Zagreb. By the end of the day, about 1,050 prisoners held by the republic and 550 Croats held by the army were to be swapped, Croatian officials said.
