An electrical short in an extension cord started a fire that caused about $15,000 damage to a West Jordan home Monday.

No one was home when the fire started and no injuries were reported. A Utah Department of Transportation crew working in the area spotted smoke at 2331 W. 7800 South about 10:45 a.m. Monday and called the fire department.Firefighters were able to knock the blaze down quickly. "It had pretty much burned itself out anyway," said West Jordan Fire Capt. Ed Larsen.

The fire was contained to a bedroom, but smoke spread throughout the entire house and caused about $15,000 damage.
