Joseph Russell Hill, 18, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the slaying last April of his stepfather.

Hill pleaded guilty to capital murder in the slaying and was sentenced Monday by 2nd District Judge Ronald O. Hyde.Hill also was sentenced to five years to life for aggravated burglary and to not more than five additional years for the use of a firearm during a felony.

Hill and a friend, Charles Pete Ulibarri, 17, broke into the home of Hill's stepfather, David Dale Young, on April 22 to burglarize it.

Young returned unexpectedly and caught them in the act.

Officers said the youths each shot Young with rifles from Young's collection. Hill shot him four times and Ulibarri shot him once.

Ulibarri pleaded guilty in September to capital homicide and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
