A wave of strikes paralyzing factories across Bulgaria has spread to the country's second largest port, officials said Wednesday.

Some 1,200 out of 2,000 longshoremen, mechanics and other staff in the Black Sea port of Burgas joined the stoppage called by the official union federation to demand management changes.Strikes called by the federation and the independent union Podkrepa have gathered strength only a month after Bulgaria's first non-communist government in four decades came to power.
